Big and ripe, this wine balances the opulence of Merlot and the structure of Cabernet Franc. The wine is full of ripe, juicy black fruits that are underlined by the structure and tannin. With a fine future ahead of it, the wine will be ready from 2023.

Checking in as 58% Merlot and 42% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Château Tournefeuille has a juicy, fruit-forward bouquet of red plum and ripe black cherries as well as a touch of leafy tobacco and cedarwood. Nicely textured, medium to full-bodied, pure, and elegant on the palate, it has terrific tannins as well as outstanding length. This smoking good Lalande-de-Pomerol should keep for 8-10 years.

Inviting, with crushed plum and blackberry puree flavors carried by a velvety structure. Black tea, savory and sandalwood accents on the stylish finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2027. 5,000 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.

The 2018 Tournefeuille is flashy and succulent, just as it was en primeur. Raspberry, spice, new French oak and rose petal are all kicked up in this racy, fruity Lalande de Pomerol. Tournefeuille is an intriguing wine because of the high percentage of Cabernet Franc (42%). That leads me to believe that with a bit more work, it could be a substantially better wine. I would prefer to drink the 2018 over the next few years.
