Bright, deep, purple in color. Very charming and refined on the nose. Fresh, fruity, underpinned by a note of French oak, Morello cherry jam, violet. Spicy notes on aeration. Clean attack on the palate with silky tannins. A pleasurable wine, delicious, subtle and seductive. Beautiful harmony and elegant femininity. This wine receives the best care: the technical winemaking process, very selective blending, and careful aging for 12 months in barrel (including 20% new oak). Technique at the service of purity of expression. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon rub shoulders without ever competing; one brings opulence, the other brings structure. In blends, as in marriage, it is complementarity, mutual exaltation that counts.

The 2020 Madame de Beaucaillou was picked 11-30 September, matured 20% in new oak for an expected 12 months. It displays good intensity on the nose: blackberry, iodine and iris petals scents, just a scintilla of honey. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, displaying fine depth. The judicious use of new oak allows the black fruit to shine on the finish, with hints of pencil lead on the aftertaste. This is well worth seeking out.

Readers looking for a great Bordeaux that won't break the bank need to jump on the 2020 Madame De Beaucaillou. First made in 2018 and all hand-harvested (and optically sorted), it has bright, darker cherry and subtle cassis-like fruits as well as some loamy earth and violet nuances, medium body, a round, supple mouthfeel, and outstanding length. I'd happily drink a bottle any time over the coming 7-8 years or so.

The 2020 Madame de Beaucaillou exhibits notes of cassis, pencil shavings, plums and violets, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively palate that's structured around youthfully firm, chalky tannins. It should reward a bit of patience. It's derived from some 50 hectares of vineyards in Listrac and Cussac.
